About the Author

I am Vice President of Marketing for a Financial Services firm by day, and aspiring author by night.

When I’m not writing, I happen to enjoy music, and am quite the Scotch aficionado. I am also one of the most talented bedroom guitarists that I have ever known. ;)

Kuro is my first novel and I am feverishly working on Book 2 of a planned Trilogy. Kuro comes about from an honest desire to see the North American version of the Light Novel come into being. I am fascinated with Asian culture, especially Japanese culture and it’s many facets. It’s truly noteworthy one country single-handedly brought us Anime, Manga, Shinto Myth, Samurai, Ninja, Oni, Sushi and the Pillow Girlfriend. It is one of the most fascinating countries I have had the pleasure of visiting.

I currently reside in Chicago, IL with my wife and a seriously unpredictable but nonetheless exciting little boy.

  1. Have you ever heard of Hayao Mizaki, he is a Japanese animator, and I think you would like him. His stories are wonderful and inspiring, it’s like magic. Some of his movies are: Ponyo, Howl’s Moving Castle, Nasicaa: of the Valley of the Wind, and a whole lot more. Since your stories are Asian base, I think you would enjoy watching these movies. Oh and they are good for all audiences, as far as I know. (Except maybe Princess Mononoke, it had a bit of heads being cut off in them…) :)
    I hope you enjoy! :)

      • No wonder Kuro was also such a captivating novel :D It kept my mind preoccupied for almost a week! gosh! haha. because all that’s left to do is for me to wait for book two. I’m so hyped about all these~ If one day it would be printed and published, specially if it includes some visuals, oooh I’d definitely buy the books :D and I wish for it to be animated too~ I think it’ll be an awesome stuff to watch ^_^ You’re such an awesome author, sir! keep it up, and keep feeding our imaginations with your creativity :) God bless and more power to you :D

        • Hi Karen,

Thanks so much for your kind words! Yes, I’d really love for that to happen too! It’s too bad I haven’t gotten any interested parties yet, but I’ll keep trying. I think it helps if you suggest it to your local publishers. Some of them might be willing to take a look!

Oh, and if you’re interested, I do have one other book on Wattpad. It’s not Kuro 2, but it might be something you’d be interested in.

          Thanks for commenting!

          Mike

  2. I found this book on Wattpad earlier today. I have to admit i find it very intriguing. I also like the anime approach to the story as well. Looking forward to reading the rest of the book “Kuro” and to book 2. Thank you for a very entertaining read.

  4. I have never read much anime other than a few paragraphs my daughter asked me to. But…..
I have truly enjoyed your story and I can’t wait for book 2. Sincere Thanks for a wonderful read. It kept me drawn in throughout and my imagination alive. Keep up the great work.

    • Hi there! Thanks very much for dropping me a note. It is wonderful to hear that Kuro appeals to readers whether they are into the Anime genre or not. It makes me believe that there may truly be a market of readers for it. I am glad you enjoyed your time in Kuro and hope to see you when Book 2 rolls around!

      Best,
      Mike

  5. I read this book on Wattpad and it has piqued my interest. As a teen I have truly enjoyed this book and have also commented on your novel. I appreciate how you take the time to read and reply to every comment. As a personal thought, I think you will become a very successful author and fully support you, it only adds that you also have a steady job AND a family. You sir are a true diamond in the rough. Hope you have more inspirations for those sequels!!!

-this novel appeals to me very much :)

Oh and I’m tiger0768 on wattpad if you remember

    • Hi Sydney,

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, I really enjoy hearing from those who have experienced the novel. And yes, I do remember you! :D

I am actually in the process of seeing if I can get Book 1 traditionally published. Unfortunately, the odds may be stacked against me as I self published this and posted to WattPad first rather than going the other way around!

Let’s hope an enterprising agent, or better yet a publisher will pick this up!

It’s pretty tough juggling a day job and a family, so I’m happy you can appreciate the challenges there. :D

Hope to hear from you when Book 2 rolls around!

      Warm regards,
      Mike

  6. Thanks you for writing something so great I have lost interest in books for about 10 years thanks for rekindling my interest in books can’t wait for part two I hope you get published don’t overwork yourself working and family are two big jobs in themselves.

    • Mike,

Thanks so much for your wonderful post, it is very inspiring to hear from folks like you. Books are such a wonderful escape for us, and writing, especially for me has been such a rewarding avenue. To hear such kinds words from you is inspiring! Yes, it is a bit of a challenge juggling multiple lives, but at the end of the day, I get to lose myself in my own world, and it is far more wonderful to hear from other people who have enjoyed living in this albeit strange construct of a world that I’ve conconcted! I don’t know why you waited 10 years to jump back in, but I am glad to have been the catalyst in bringing you back into the magic!

I hope to see you in book 2!

      -Mike :)

  7. I can’t wait for book 2; This story absolutely sucked me in and now I’m watching your Wattpad account like a hawk (no creepiness or stalkery…ness intended). Now I often wonder what would happen if the real world lost the sun (most likely we would all die), and what would happen if any of this happened to me (the world would most likely be doomed if I was Mina xD). All in all, Kuro is a very entertaining and very well-written book. I’ve been recommending it to my friends and so far they all love it.

    • Hi there and nice to hear from you! I am glad you enjoyed it. Mina continues her adventures in Book 2 so I am hoping to see you jump aboard when it becomes available. :)

I am also considering posting a whole new project tentatively titled “Death Angel”, so watch out for that one as well!

Thank you for the recommendations – they help a lot :)

      Warm Regards,
      Mike
